You can increase your tomato yield even in a short summer growing season using this technique. Pick off the blossoms before planting each tomato plant in your garden. Then bury the plant up to the top leaves and snip off the remaining leaves. All of the stem that is underground will turn into roots. Next trellis the plants keeping them thinned to one or two stems trimming off all the suckers. In late July there are five fruit blossom clusters per plant, cut off the top and remove any additional flowers. This will speed up the ripening time of the fruit which allows for a higher tomato yield in a short growing season.
