a walk up Kennesaw Mountain

My office is literally right at the base of Kennesaw mountain.  Yesterday felt almost like 80 degrees outside so I went for a quick walk up to the summit. This trail has always been dear to me, its the first hike I remember doing by my self when my parents took me at about age 7 or 8.  This is hands down the best day hike area around and if you have not been it needs to be on your list. For one thing its absolutly free. They have also added a whole new parking lot which is very helpful. I have been there before on nice days only to drive around their tiny parking lot looking for a space for 15 minutes. The new parking area is four times larger and only about 400 yards down the road, with a nice 8 foot wide sidewalk to walk to the visitors center. The trail to the top of the mountain is superbly maintained and super clean. The trail is very wide and acomidating for even large groups to walk together. The climb is a  fairy gentle with a few relativly flat areas. The views from the top are awesome. On most days you can make out the Atlanta skyline. The visitors center has a decent museum with about 50 to 60 artifacts on display and a movie. Again it is all free and a wonderful place to picnic. Their are tables outside and two very large fields to play on. I want to take my family back this summer fly some kites and let my oldest two daughters conquer the mountian
